What to write in a gift card
In a gift card, write a line or two in your own voice: the recipient's name, something only you two share, and one detail of the occasion, such as their age or what the thanks is for. The card is the difference between a gift that arrived and a gift that arrived from you. Here are starting lines for every occasion, with one rule for each. On Haddiyah your message shows in their WhatsApp link, even when they pick from several gifts to their taste, and arrives written with the flowers or cake in Riyadh and Jeddah.
How does it work?
- Choose the gift, and on the order page write your message in the card field.
- Enter the recipient's name and mobile. You can show your name or send it as 'someone who loves you'.
- They get a WhatsApp link showing the gift and your message, and set their place and time.
- The gift arrives with the message written on it.
Birthday
The rule: mention the age or the year ahead, not 'happy birthday' alone.
'Sara, every year you are closer. Next year we celebrate together.' 'Thirty years and you have not changed, except for the better. Happy birthday.' 'Mum: every year you are the reason for everything good we have.' You will find birthday gifts here.
Graduation
The rule: name the degree or the years you watched them work.
'Congratulations, Doctor. I watched you stay up with the books; today I saw the result.' 'Five years of engineering, done. The rest is easier, trust me.' 'To my sister: your graduation is the first joy in the house this year.' See graduation gifts.
New baby
The rule: use the baby's name if you know it, and put the mother before the baby.
'Congratulations, Hind, and your health first. Welcome, Faisal.' 'The house has one more, and so do the people who love you.' 'To my friend: look at you, a mother. I am the aunt from today.' See new-baby gifts.
Thank you
The rule: say exactly what the thanks is for.
'Thank you for the week you covered for me. I have not forgotten.' 'Miss Mona, thank you for your patience with my son this year.' 'Dad: thank you for everything, and for what you never said.' See thank-you gifts.
Get well
The rule: short, and no questions about the illness.
'Get well soon, Abu Khalid. We are waiting for you.' 'Work is missing something without you. Get better quickly, for our sake.' 'To my grandmother: get well soon, I am coming to drink your coffee.' See get-well gifts.
Apology
The rule: what happened in a word, sorry without a 'but', and what you will do next.
'Yesterday I was wrong, and you did not deserve those words. I am sorry.' 'I know I kept you waiting twice this week. I am sorry, and the next dinner is on my time.' 'To my friend: you are right to be upset. I am sorry, and coffee is on me.' See apology gifts.
Anniversary and love
The rule: the number of years, and something from the first day.
'Ten years, and the same flowers I brought the first time. Every year you are my wife.' 'I did not forget, I was late. Happy seventh, my love.' 'To my husband: the flowers are for you this time, so you know how I feel every year.' See anniversary gifts and love gifts.
Gifts that fit any message
If you have the message but not the gift: a bouquet, flowers with chocolate or a small cake fits any card above, and arrives in Riyadh and Jeddah the same day when the recipient sets the location before 4 pm. All the gifts are grouped by occasion, person and budget.
Before you send
- Put the recipient's name first. 'Noura,' does more than any phrase after it.
- One or two lines are enough. A long message is read once; a short one is kept.
- Name something specific: the occasion by name, or something that happened between you. General phrases are forgotten.
- For a complete surprise, send it without your name, and put something in the message only you would know, so they guess.
Frequently asked questions
Does the recipient see the message before the gift arrives?
Yes. They see the gift, your message and your name, or 'someone who loves you' if you hid it, in the WhatsApp link they receive. They never see a price.
Can I send the gift without my name?
Yes. Choose 'no name' and it arrives as 'someone who loves you'. The message stays exactly as you wrote it.
How long should the message be?
Short: one or two lines. The card that travels with the gift is small, and a short message is the one that gets kept.
What do I write if I do not know the person well?
Name the occasion and wish them something specific: 'Congratulations on the new job, and see you as manager soon.' The name at the start and your signature at the end do the rest.
